Dont worry too much about having to have a 'Career path' mapped out at your age.
Take subjects that really interest you. In doing so you will be motivated to work hard at those subjects because you enjoy them.
Getting the best grades you can is more important than having the career in mind at this stage. (If you know absolutely what you want to do at this age then
1. you are in the minority
2. You are lucky but will probably change your mind by the time you get to working in that field.
3.you would be tied into working in subjects you may not like and so may not succeed!
Enjoy study for it's own merits while you can and opportunities will arise as you progress.
Good luck and above all ENJOY the learning for itself!
References :
Knowing what I wanted, changing my mind a million times, and I am still having an adventure with my work 30 years after finishing schooling!

I used "Baby Signing 1-2-3". It gives good 'how to' information month by month as well as a dictionary of commonly used signs :)

Here is the website for the Sign Babies:
http://www.signbabies.com/

You can find the book in the baby section of any book store.
References :
Mommy of an 8 month old

I'm in s4 too...
In my school there's a photography higher that you can do, you should see if there's anything like that on offer. You could also try and find out about crashing art at higher, or just leave it and do some kind of part time course in design in a couple of years time.

Can I get some career advice please?
Im in high school, S4, Scotland. Next month we'll be choosing our higher subjects and I still don't have a career in mind. I was wondering, using the following points about me, someone could suggest ideas or even areas where I could get a job, or study to get that job.
The standard grades I chose were, maths, english, french, history, media studies, computing, biology and chemistry.
I definitely don't want to continue with history and chemistry.
I wanted to work with animals for a long time, something like guide dog training but I went off that. It was then I became interested in learning braille and sign language, and I would like to start self teaching myself that if I find a use for it eg. my career path
After I had chosen my standard grade subjects I became interested in interior design also- tv shows like '60 minute makeover' and room design. However I'm concerned I might not be able to get into that because I didn't take art or design technology. I'm also a little interested in photography.
I don't mind computing and Im quite good at it but I dont want to be sitting in front of a computer for half my life. Media studies is fun (analysis of film work), but I hate acting so I suppose if I went for this path I would work backstage.
So basically my problems are that I've become interested in subjects that I didn't take, I don't know what to continue with because I cant see a career- any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

It all depends on your personal political persuasion. While you might feel that a certain point-of-view might be too leftist for your personal tastes, there's likely another student who feels that same view is too rightist for him or her. I think when people complain about political biases in colleges, they don't really belong in college in the first place. College is first and foremost, a place for higher learning and critical thinking. That includes hearing views you might not agree with. If you don't want to learn about them, then consider going somewhere else for job training.
References :
Sounds like you have thought and overthought this thru (if overthought is a word?) I am retired now and would love to do my education over..my opinion..go for the English degree and teacher certification but also add (can do this later) a certification in English as a Second Language. A lot of people teach this but without certification and the full time jobs in this are increasing. Even if teaching jobs have been cut, there are many ways to use this degree and other jobs that require certification. Best wishes! Been there and made different choices that were good but could have been better.
References :
my education and work

this should help if you plan on teaching yourself. I have been playing the guitar since the march of this year. I have only read a small assortment of articles on a few guitar sites and the rest i have taught myself. believe me, its not as hard as you think. Just go to the internet and start by printing off a chord chart. after this, just make a habit of practicing for 30 mins 2 or 3 times a day. After a while, it will be second nature to come into your house, take out your guitar and start jamming. Also, whenever you want to learn a new song just go to the internet and look on sites like Ultimateguitar.com or Guitarnoise.com (which also has a forum for Q's) and search for some easy ones. If you are interested in finger picking, i would start by practicing your chords for a while til your fret hand gets more dexterous then search "how to finger pick" or "finger picking drills" these will help you get more agile with your picking hand. If you want to learn somthing else, just google it! google has so many Guitar sources (web-sites, charts, pictures, reviews, songs...) If you printed it all off there would be no trees left on the planet earth and your printer would be asking you for more paper. (lol im going a bit overboard, but u get the idea.)
