Help Your Child Study Trig
If you are looking for a way in which you can help your child study trig, then start with their school books.
Look through the topics that have been taught in the math class whether it be sine, cosine or tangent, trig functions or ratios in triangles, and go through the class notes first. Then go through the worked examples. Most good trigonometry text books will have a section on theory followed by worked out examples and then some more questions for the student to do on his own.
Going through worked out examples is a great way to check that your child has followed the topic and can then apply what was taught. It forces an application of the theory work and is a great way of cementing that knowledge.
So, go through the examples in the text book and see if your child is able to do the extra questions at the end of the book.
If your child is still struggling with these questions but is able to see how the worked examples were solved, then you might need to download some easy questions from the internet.
The key to becoming good at maths has a lot to do with confidence. If your child has the confidence, then even if he finds certain questions difficult, he won’t be daunted by them and will persevere until he completes them. If your child lacks confidence, then no matter how easy a question might be, the lack of confidence will make him approach problems in a timid manner and this can hinder his progress.
Where possible, therefore, the best way to help your child in trigonometry or geometry or in any of the maths disciplines, is to ensure they understand the basics and then have the confidence to believe that they can work through the problems. Start with easy level problems and gradually move on to more difficult ones.
